Lessons from Muhammad Ali: Perspective is Everything

Brothers it was another incredible gathering.I was moved, motivated, and inspired. I just saw this quote that encapsulated some of the thoughts that were shared.

In response to what Darell was sharing and how many of us resonated with the struggle of making the decision not to lash out at the personal injustice that we encounter and deciding just how to cope.

My thought is that these issues of racial injustice and oppression are actually the pebble that becomes an irritant in our shoe. I think of it this way. The "white man" the white system is an irritant, a pebble, that is not to be overshadowed by our larger goals. When the goal of lifting myself, my family, and my people are my main focus then the pebble, the irritant is put in it's place.

I don't know about you but when I realize the pebble in my shoe is slowing me down I just take off my shoe, shake it and the pebbles falls to the ground. When I am in the process of ridding myself of the pebble, I am focused on my ultimate goal.

"The pebble only becomes my enemy when it keeps me distracted from my goals." - Keita
